Painting a Pumpkin with Little Ones

Do you decorate with pumpkins this time of year?  I do.  When it's just us, I keep it plain and sitting amidst the mums on the porch.

Sometimes, if I feel like being a bit more creative, I carve it... but I haven't done that in a while.  When Kristiina was little, I used to do a pretty cool 3-D lion.  And the last pumpkin I carved was a of a cat... that was 6 or 7 years ago, though.

Since Kristiina and the kids were just here for a visit, I decided this year we'd have a painted pumpkin.  It was something fun for us to do together, and it will last through the season since it's not carved.

I let the kids pick out pumpkin faces from the internet and then I drew them on the pumpkin with a Sharpy.  This is the face that Kingston chose:

Note the brush marks... he started painting his side of the pumpkin orange. [grin]

This is the face Aria chose:

A little whacky... :-)

Then, I just let them add their flair to the two-faced pumpkin!

Oooh, it was so fun!

And that pumpkin got quite colorful!

Pink and purple were Aria's favorites, though she used the entire palette.

Haha... Kingston was in rare form. Silly kid. :-)  And here is his masterpiece:

And here is my adorable Aria's purple pumpkin face:

Our two-sided custom pumpkin adorns our porch and we can appreciate their works of art both coming and going!

I think this year's pumpkin is my favorite.
