First Moments ...and an I Heart Faces Entry

Desiring to make an entry to I Heart Faces' monthly photo challenge, I'm reposting this blog-post from the day our darling Aria arrived (11/12/11).  I couldn't resist this one... the theme is "Beautiful B & W" and, certainly, this is the most beautiful B & W I've ever seen.  Read on, you'll see why!

Inside, her room is dimly lit.

Here since midnight, she's on hands and knees; rocking.

The pain rips through her body and she throws her head back.  A primal cry escapes her, and I want to cry, too.  It's just about more than this mama can take, but I heed my own advice and just breathe though it.

Little One's daddy and I share a knowing glance. We understand each other, helpless to alleviate the agony and almost crushed because of it.

Outside, the sun quietly, gloriously, rises.

The sky lights up, painted purple and peach.  The filtered rays find their way to shimmering trees and I'm peacefully reminded of what is soon to come...

...the wonder of Baby's first breath.

We wait.

(At 7:30 AM, an epidural has her mercifully resting.)

And at 11:05 AM...

See what I mean!  She draws her first breath, and takes mine away...

Head on over to I Heart Faces and see some more amazing B & Ws.

Aria is...

... a finger eater!

     "Mmmm, I love my fingers!"

"But I think I'm ready to get out of this seat." (Look at the pinky in the lower left corner! {grin} )

     "Well... maybe this is okay."

"No... I'm pretty sure I want up now."

"Oh, but till gramma puts down the camera... I could just suck on my fingers."

Okay, okay... I put the camera down and rescued the little beauty.  We bounced and danced; did our stand/squat exercises; and got a clean bottom.

Then moved to a different spot - over on the love seat.

Kingston climbed up and said, "picture next to her."  {Smile!}  "Okay, let me take a picture of you next to your sister."

Then she found her fingers again, and he found something on his nail that needed to be 'cyipped.'

     "Nom, nom, nom... fingers!"

Fingers in the mouth can be so relaxing!

     Sweet dreams, Little One.

     Two sleepy girls.

     What a beauty.

Then she woke up and grampa gave her a bottle.  Mama-milk, of course, and that was even better than fingers!

While she slept, Kingston and I made play dough.  We were supposed to have made muffins (a promise made when he rebuked the idea of a nap), but then I discovered I had no eggs so muffins were out.  That was okay; play dough still required measuring ingredients and stirring it on the stove.

Then I discovered I had no food coloring.  Drats.  We can't have off-white play dough.  How boring.  So, I used the juice from a few of the blueberries that we were going to make muffins with.

     Ta-da... blueberry flavored play dough!

Making play dough cookies is serious work.

By the way, this was last Sunday - not this past Friday.  Another day that Mama and Daddy got to go snowboarding.  I love it that we're nearby so the kids can go off and have fun from time to time!

They're headed back to the mountain today, but this time Kingston is going, too.  We'll have our little Aria all by herself...

We'll have some dinner together when they get back.  Happy day!

Into My Heart

Joe and I watched the little ones yesterday so Nic and Kristiina could "shred pow."

At Kingston's nap time, we read a book through a couple of times.  When he wanted to read the same one for a third time, I suggested we close the book and sing.

"What do you want to sing, Kingston?"  "Ocean" he replied. "I don't know how to sing Ocean. Daddy sings Ocean." "Daddy sing Ocean?" "Yes."

"How about Grace?" I asked him.  "No, Mama sing Grace."  "Okay. How about Praise God?" "No... Mama sing Praise God."

I offered a few more suggestions to which he smiled sweetly, shook his head, and softly said, "Noooo."

"Okay, then.  Let's just close our eyes and lay quietly together."  He closed his eyes, hands crossed over the book still laying on his chest.

After a few moments, I began to hum one of the songs in my 'lullaby repertoire.'  Almost immediately Kingston opened his eyes and said, "Come in." I looked at the door thinking he heard something, then realized he recognized the song.  It's one of his great, great gramma's favorites "Come Into my Heart" and I have apparently sang it to him enough that he recognized it by it's melody.

"That's right, Sweetheart. You know this song, don't you.?" "Mmm, hmmm."  "Okay, close your eyes." As I began to hum it some more, he opened his eyes again and said, "Into my heart..."

I smile and sigh...  "Yes, honey.  That's right."  I began to sing the song rather than just hum it and he closed his eyes without prompting, breathing deeply and contentedly.

Into my heart, into my heart
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus
Come in today, come in to stay
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus

All of my heart, all of my heart
Have all of my heart, Lord Jesus
Have all today, have all, I pray
Have all of my heart, Lord Jesus

A few times through, and he was fast asleep.

He only met her once, but he'll know his great, great gramma.  And he'll know the Savior she loved so much.  My heart sings.
